Changing the face of HIV/AIDS

Renee Beaulieu/Health Issues/Post 4/February 8, 2008/12:15

This article that I have chosen for my current event this week is titled, “Changing the face of HIV/AIDS.” I have chosen this because I have been following the current news with the issue of HIV/AIDS for the past three weeks. This article explains that February 7th was National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. The author of this article expresses his view of how we need to take a stand on this disease. He states, “The HIV/AIDS epidemic is fast becoming an alarming issue for my generation and if we don't stand up together, young and old, to fight it we will all face the consequences”. He begins by saying that the first step is to get tested. Ignoring the situation is not the way to go. If everyone is healthy, then the people around can protect themselves also. This article was simply an opinion of someone with AIDS to help others get the right help they need to live a longer life. He also says many doctors give free screening for the test.

This article relates because it is a health issue that effects many people in the world. AIDS is not a disease that should be taken lightly. People should get tested and take care of themselves. Those who are not infected still need to take care of themselves to help stop the spread of the disease. AIDS is a health issue that many people tend to ignore and I believe that the author of this article is another attempt to change the phenomenon.

I agree with the article in that everyone does need to get tested. I wouldn't doubt it if in a couple of years that it would be a routine when someone goes to get a physical, to get HIV tested. I think that it is kind of sad that we have not been able to find a cure yet for this growing epidemic.

I agree 100% with you Renee. I think everyone should get tested and take every precaution to not be infected with HIV/AIDS. Its a terrible disease and it is killing millions of people as we speak. We should all make sure we stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.
