Rebels Fight For Chad's Capital

Nakita Knight/2-3-08 at 11:22pm/global crime

On Friday evening, about 1,500 rebel soldiers entered Chad's capital (N'Djamena) to start an uproar. The fighting didn't take place until saturday afternoon. All of this was an attempt to drive president Idriss Deby out of office. A Chadian general named Mahamat Ali Abdallah Nassour insisted to Radio France International that "the Chadian defense and security forces control the capital." Elysee officials from France told TIME that President Nicolas Sarkozy had spoken on the phone with Deby to reiterate his support. France then sent an additional 150 soldiers to aid the 1,450 in Chad. However, the main focus of these troops were to airlift foreign citizens to safety, other than protecting the government.

Once again, a territorial struggle brings forth a battle. I have a strong feeling that most of my posts will have to do with this. These are the motives for crime going on in Africa right now. Someone is always going to be unhappy with who's in office, why their in office, and whatever other reasons. I really don't understand it. I don't mean to sound like an afterschool special but...fighting is not going to solve anything. What? You're going to throw your bombs and raise hell just for things to still be the same? You can't change politics! Plus, there's the fact that someone is always going to be upset with anyone being in position of power! I really need some feedback on this, please.

I definitely agree with what you're saying about it ending. I don't understand why people seem to want to fight about everything that has to do with the government, either! I know there are years and years of struggle between these tribal groups that I can't even begin to comprehend, but I can't seem to understand how it works in our country, between native americans and african americans, who were once SERIOUSLY oppressed, and still are to an extent....but we get by, don't we? I can't understand how many african political leaders continue to take office by force, which is what these rebel groups are trying to accomplish, i guess!
