The National Intelligence Council released a report yesterday saying that the newly found drive for conserving energy and water has led to exloratory measures of nuclear weapons. That being said, regional conflict is seen in the future of the globe. The report entitled Global Trends 2025, lists issues such as "great-power rivalry, demographics, climate change, terrorism, nuclear proliferation, energy and natural resources." It also says weak states with access to weapons of mass destruction is a grim thought but increasingly possible. Although, the report said terrorists groups will lessen, the chance violent extremists will increase because of their capability to get biological weapons or even nuclear warfare. In addition, the report said that the economic positions of the middle east should become stable thus making the governments stable and able to make policies to prevent future instability. However, new countries will become world powers while other countries still suffer from the conflict of poorly governed terrorist activity.
I find it interesting that we are already assuming what will happen in over a decade. As of now, we have no knowledge of what will happen with other countries or their economies and I would like to think terrorism will decline along with threats of nuclear war in the coming of years.
