Brasher: 2050 corn harvest will affect food, fuel policies

This article is basically about the production of corn and how much it is supposed to incredase by in the year 2050. It is said that it will increase to 240-300 bushels an acre, which means that the amount of corn produced this year alone will be harvested on only 43 million acres in 2050 when we had to use 79 million this year. The author of this article is trying to stress the importance of this information because of the amount off food production that will be necessary to sustain life and agriculture in 2050.
If this is the real amount that will be produced, some believe it will be more than enough to sustain all of the corn needs then and even make cutting back on deforestaion possible. If it is only 240 bushels produced per acre in 2050, some believe that it will be close to impossible to feed the ever-growing population of the world. On the bright side, the production of corn is going up. This year, we went up 22% from last year and, hopefully, this trend will stick.
All I really know to say is that I hope that our production rates in 2050 are closer to 300 because that is what will be necessary to basically feed America. I also agree with the author that this is an important issue right now because maybe we can do something today that will lead to a brighter tomorrow.
