There have been a lot of scientists saying that the new social networks that people are taking part of like Facebook, Myspace and Twitter are isolating people in their homes, since they don't have to go out to talk to people anymore. We this article states that these products and companies are actually enhancing the social world instead of destroying it. There was a study done about how people have been using technology more and more since 1985. The study was about how Americans were becoming more socially isolated because the social networks were shrinking and the diversity of the people was shrinking. The study showed that people usage of cell phones and the internet actually makes us contact a much more diverse amount of people. The point is new social networking isn't something we need to worry about hurting us. If anything it will just bring more diverse groups of people together, which could be a good thing or a bad thing I guess.
As a student I have thought about how social networking sites have brought people farther apart because now people don't think they need to personally see someone to be a good friend. I think no matter how many social networks we have people are always going to want to physically go out and see someone just because it's the normal human way to physically interact and it will take a number of years before that number of people who converse that way changes dramatically.

I do agree that Facebook and other social networking sites are helping to enhance some people's social worlds, but I agree to that these sites are isolating people in their homes. Instead of actually going out and talking with people, they can now just sit at home and chat with someone. These sites can be good to help spread diversity and such, but I think that they also have a down side to them.
