A new kind of potato is on sale in the UK, and believe it or not, it is purple. Researchers at Colorado State University are very excited about their recent discovery, The Purple Majesty. The Purple Majesty has a unique deep purple color and contains up to ten times more anthocyanins, an antioxidant, than that of regular white potatoes. Research is still being done to examine the all the possible health benefits from consuming this purple spud. So far researchers have found that that the antioxidant properties are maintained after cooking and can have a positive effect on blood vessels and reducing blood pressure.
Over all I think it is great when scientist discover new foods with positive benefits. However, I believe that scientist should be focusing more energy on feeding the people that do not have food. This potato will probably sell for a few buck, in the meantime a large portion of the world is starving. I we are able to develop purple power potatoes why are we not able to develop a solution to world hunger. In class we discussed how around one third of the world’s population is living in poverty. I believe that more money are resources need to go towards helping those people, not developing new vegetables.

I am the scientist that developed the Purple Majesty potato. Plant breeders have made great strides in developing improved vegetable varieties that are both more plentiful and healthy. The problem for world hunger is not the supply of food in the world, but the distribution of the available food.
Maybe the purple power potato is part of the solution, if he packs mroe nutrients then typical potatoes. Thats unreal that the scientist who developed it posted.
Its really interesting that scientists are making new discoveries of foods that are more healthy. The world needs more food options that have better nutritional values instead of the usual greasy fast foods. I also do agree that more focus and effort does need to be put into finding ways to end world hunger because it is a huge problem that several countries face everyday and it needs to be fixed.
Ultimately the solution to world food hunger lies with improving the distribution of available food. Part of this means overcoming the "politics" associated with food distribution. Many countries are ready and willing to provide food where needed but often those countries hinder distributing the food to those that need it most.
