Africa: Peace Corps Volunteers Build Malaria Prevention Team
This article talked about how the peace corps volunteers got together to end malaria. This peace corps groups consist of 20 volunteers they are know for'Stomping Out Malaria in Africa'. The peace corps is known for African countries participated in the third "Stomping Out Malaria in Africa Boot Camp" held February 2-11. The boot camp convened in Thies, Senegal, and incorporated innovative technology to highlight the best practices in malaria prevention, treatment and intervention campaigns."according to (www.ethiosun.com). In this boot camp they come up with ideas to prevent malaria and also treat malaria. I believe this is a good idea because people from Africa volunteer to work on preventing and treating the disease. So, while they are learning they can teach the others around them how to treat the disease. This way the disease has a chance at vanishing if everyone can get treated and learn how to prevent it from the peace corps volunteers. The Peace Corps Volunteers had boot camp sessions so alot of people could participate and they also had Skype for US participation. In this boot camp session they discussed malaria science, behavior change communications, HIV/AIDS and malaria co-infection, bed-net distribution, and international malaria policy and control".(www.allafrica.com) The article also stated that they were 1million deaths malaria in Africa. I am very enthusiastic to know that a team did come together to prevent the spread of the disease. This is a major plus because now they are working toward a goal. The goal of the peace corps is to end malaria and i believe from the results of this article they are on the way of doing so.
