Mexican authorities seize 105 tons of marijuana

This current events article is about the drug bust in Mexico. I chose this article because it relates to what our next chapter is on in class. The article says that the Mexican security forces found 105 tons of marijuana that was headed to the United States. Its was seized in the border city of Tijuana on Monday and was the biggest drug bust in years. Police got the drugs in three neighborhoods after police arrested eleven people after a shootout. The drug was found in 10,000 packages and was estimated to be around $340 million. The marijuana bust began when police was on a normal routine patrol and came about gunfire from different vehicles. After the shooting, one police officer and one suspect were injured. Eleven people who were in these vehicles were arrested. Security forces were lead to the three different neighborhoods where drugs were found in trailers and different houses. Local gangs were receiving the drugs to smuggle into the United States, however the gangs were unidentified. This article is well-written and gave the whole story. However, I think they should include other statistics about drug trafficking in Mexico. They say that this was biggest bust in years, but what was the next biggest? As far as analyzing goes, it is apparent that the Unites States is receiving large amounts of marijuana from Mexico. It is also apparent that this is how many people make a living, by growing and smuggling drugs. This is a social problem because it is happening everywhere. Drug imports are constantly on the rise and increasing every year. It is growing in countries where people can't or won't find jobs or don't have money to survive.
